On social networks like Facebook, Twitter or even Tumblr, we have privacy settings. Sometimes people don't understand how important it is to protect their information. There are people out there that do weird things and you never know what those people are doing with what you put on the internet. If we try to protect our privacy then it will make us feel safer.
On Facebook, we put down information about us like our interests, our name, where we go to school or work, pictures of us and our friends. But to protect all that we can put different kind of privacy settings. People can set what people can see on their profile if you are a friend or not. Some people don't even let their friends see pictures, or information, or their own wall. For me, i only let friends see my pictures and everything else. If not, then they can't click anything on my profile.
We tend to put more information about us so our friends would know but people can easily be looking around and end up knowing too much about you.
On twitter, people either have to follow you to know what you tweet or if you don't set it, anyone can read your tweets.
It you post something on the internet and then delete it,you think that it is gone but that information you put into the server can be traced back. Someone may have already have seen it and saved it.
The internet is not a private place. You may think it is safe even if you put privacy setting but the internet is a public place. We tend to put a lot of information about ourselves on the internet where everyone can see. Someone may be stalking you from across the world and you wouldn't even know. So, think before you put something on the internet. Protect your identity!
